Jihun Kim

Lecturer

Dr. Jihun Kim is a researcher and educator, teaching undergraduate and graduate students on the determination of sustainability, energy flow, and environmental design in seminars, workshops, and design studios. After receiving a Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan, he has been practicing as an architect with a sustainability focus, currently being licensed in the New York State and LEED-accredited. He received a Ph. D. in Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania where he was formally trained as a building scientist and pioneered a new algorithm to assess topography and urban form for their impact on local wind conditions. The findings were published in 2017, “Topography integration to wind downscaling” through one of the highest-impact international journals. He has been teaching at the City University of New York (CUNY) and the Parsons School of Design (Parsons), besides having been associated with the Master of Science in Environmental Building Design program of the University of Pennsylvania in various forms of teaching and research since 2010, including ARCH 754 Performance Design Workshop and ARCH 708 Environmental Design Studio. His expertise includes advanced environmental simulation, computational fluid dynamics, bioclimatic architectural optimization, environmental system integration, and low carbon neighborhood design.

The courses he taught include:

ARCH 754 Performance Design Workshop (UPenn)
ARCH 708 Environmental Design Studio (UPenn)
PSCE 5300 Environmental Design (Parsons)
ARCH 4812 Architectural Design Studio VII – Urban Design (CUNY)
ARCH 4812 Architectural Design Studio VIII – High Performance Buildings (CUNY)
ARCH 3550 Building Performance Workshop (CUNY)
ARCH 1250 Site Planning (CUNY)
