SOLEVA: Research Studio 2023

Throughout the history of desert regions, wind and water together have brought coolness and comfort to people. Towers for harvesting heat from the sun and fountains providing a chilled breeze form the pattern of comfort in desert climates.

SOL-EVA integrates an evaporative cooling mass wall with a solar chimney in the enclosure system of this tiny shelter for two people to provide thermal comfort indoors.

While the cooling loads are handled by evaporative cooling, the heating loads are addressed by redirecting warm air from the chimney back into the shelter. This dwelling spans a 36 square meters carpet area, having a bedroom, living area, kitchen, and a toilet.
